H.E.R

She came back home, tired but restless. Her eyes were red from holding back all the tears she feared her peers would see.

She slammed herself against the bed head first, forgot about her make up and burst into tears. She went through her phone, through her her phone book, there was nobody to call. She went through her Facebook and Instagram, still nothing! she wanted to scream. There was no one all through her social media , friends and followers indeed. In real life she was alone.

She was alone, just the same way she had been at the party before she met Travis that fateful afternoon. She had been invited to a party by her classmate, she came and he bailed leaving her all alone among a bunch of strangers. Then came in this lad, He knew exactly what to tell her to let her guard down, what to do to bring out her smile and what to say to get her laughing hysterically. He made her happy, and when she smiled, her nicely arranged set of teeth and dimples was an irresistible array of beauty. Her voice was a beautiful song and her eyes were the stars, the moon, the mountains and the rivers combined. She was Cleopatra of her time.

Travis was macho, attended gym classes religiously as it was evident by his physique. He had a naughty sense of humor and could dress up pretty damn well. He was a charmer.

The girls could not say no to him, neither did she, she lost her guard to his charm. He did not look like a bad person anyway. "You drink?"... " I don't."... " would you?"... "I might." And the drinks came trickling in one after the other and they got cozier by the minute. She should have stayed home but here we are.

"How about we go somewhere quiet and nice?" He asked. "Like your house? " she responded naughtily.  "Exactly !" he exclaimed. Boom just like that they were on the highway to hell.

"Stop, I cant do this!" she screamed. He wasn't taking no for an answer. Nice and quiet wasn't so nice after all. Every time she tried to resist he rained blows and forced himself on her. She grew weaker with every blow and eventually gave into his pressure. There wasn't much to do after all. She closed her eyes bit her lip bitterly and let him have his way as she writhed in pain with every thrust, she cursed! she had brought this upon herself.

Just when she thought he was done, she opened her eyes to him offering his boy a turn to the thighs that had given him pleasure regardless of her pain. She could not believe, she had let her knight in shiny armor sweep her off her feet and he had now put her on a pedestal ready for sacrifice. She tried to scream but no voice left her throat, she tried to kick but the life in her feeble feet was dying together with her soul. She gasped for air but couldn't get enough of it so she passed out and let the stupid boys feed their lust.

The midnight cold bit her tender skin she could feel it in her nerves. She woke up to a new her, stripped off her former glory and dumped in the midst of filth and trash. They had left her to die but she had cat lives. She recollected her senses reached out for her bag, fortunately her phone was still there. Uber-home,paid no questions asked no stories told. She couldn't tell how many times she had gone to hell and back.

She sat on her bed sobbing, why her? She asked herself what she had done wrong. She thought about all the shame she wanted to douse herself in bleach to cleanse all her sins. She felt she would overdose on all the painkillers she had in the cabinet to put her out of her misery but the only thing she would do was let tears freely flow down her pampered cheeks.

She thought about her life, a history of abuse. Who would believe her story. She thought about the things she had done in her past, was karma coming to haunt her. A string of questions and regret, what if she had lived life differently? What if there were better ways to pay for school fees than making trips down the red light district? What if she had just stayed home and never try to change her life? The shame, the pain , the strain all she could do was cry.

She remembered how she had saved enough to move to a different town and start over, study and make her life better. But this new town had gang raped, her broken her nose and turned her heart cold. She was in a frenzy. Just when she thought life had shown her enough it bent her over and started all over again. Life had given her lemons but the lemonade had given her a sore throat. It was a sad night.

She cried herself to sleep. When she woke up she had the perfect solution to her problems. It was time to end this. She picked up her diary and a pen and she started writing. How she was dammed since birth to how she learned the ropes by herself. How she trusted and got hurt instead, how she climbed and every time she thought she was soaring heights she fell back into the pit that was her misery. How she believed when they said, " when a door closes a window opens" Yet to her every time a door closed all the windows followed suit. How they said they would never leave but now look at her dejected and alone. How they said there would be a sunrise but to her its been dusk after dusk. How everything was supposed to be OK but all she was getting was knockout after knockout after every round.

She finishes and sighs, she says to herself, "Today it stops"She makes her bed opens her windows and draws her curtains. She walks outside and takes the stairs to the roof of her ten story apartment.

A cool breeze hits her, its a beautiful day but she has nothing beautiful to feel. She lets her hair flow in the morning wind, spreads her hands and closes her eyes. She takes a step.

The fresh air hits her nose trills and makes way rejuvenating her lungs, she feels good she is going home at last. She takes another step and another step.

Mommy... She opens her eyes, she can feel the gravity pulling her. A chilling sensation goes down her spine. She is scared and sweating profusely, she is breathing fast and can hear her own heart race. Her eyes are now fixated to the ground she is about to smear her organs and blood on.

Mommy... the voice calls again!

She takes two hurried steps back and turns towards the voice. A young boy of around seven years, he is standing there confused. You can tell he is sad from his sorrow laden eyes. He wipes a tear with the edge of his tattered sweater and makes a step towards her. She is confused.

"If you jump am jumping after you" the lad declares.

She takes another step toward the boy and the boy runs into her arms, they soak each other in tears as they embrace.

The boy had gotten so fond of her, she used to give him food and clothes every time she came from the market. She had from time to time invited him in and cleaned him and let him watch TV and have a proper meal and place to sleep. And here she wanted to end her life yet someone else saw his life in her.

I do not know what you are going through, but before you give up there's someone getting their inspiration from you. I know you have been through hell trying to find your purpose in life, you have probably given up thinking it was the best thing to do. Before you totally lose it stop to think about the people that actually care about you. You don't have to be beautiful you don't have to be strong you don't have to be wealthy you just have to be yourself. Pick up the pieces..no scratch that pick up yourself, you are the best you could ever be. Pick up your lamp let it shine. Your purpose is divine and nobody can stop what you were meant to be. Believe in yourself, I  believe in you too.,
